Amedeo Modigliani art prints

Selection of fine art prints and framed art by Amedeo Modigliani.

Amedeo Modigliani - Italian painter and sculptor (12 July 1884 – 24 January 1920). Artistic movements: Post-Impressionism, Surrealism, Cubism.

All his life Modigliani painted people, basically portraits and nudes. Characteristic features make his paintings immediately recognisable: elongated faces, limited but vivid palette of colours (mostly hues of red, brown, yellow), simplified forms and lack of perspective.

It is difficult to pigeonhole Modigliani's art, his style is individual and distinguished. He came to Paris in 1906 and straight away became a member of the artistic avant-garde. At that time, Paul Cézanne, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, cubism and young Pablo Picasso had an impact on his artistic development.

Modigliani also drew inspiration from ancient Egyptian art, African primitive culture, even from the newly discovered sculptures of Angkor city in Cambodia. Such a mix of influences filtered through genuine talent added up to his unique way of painting.
